In Malaysia, we're proud to have spearheaded a truly unique upcycling workshop in collaboration with MAYBANK, a leading bank in the country. 

Here at Komuniti Tukang Jahit (KTJ), our mission is to empower women through sewing, and this partnership allowed us to not only strengthen bonds among employees but also make a meaningful impact on a noble cause.

Unique Team-Building Workshop:
Sustainability At Its Core

It all started with a simple yet powerful idea – to directly impact our community through the platform of KTJ. Through deep discussions with the MAYBANK Legal Team, it became evident that they sought something different, something with lasting impact. 

Previous endeavors, while well-intentioned, often fell short of creating the meaningful change we all desired. Learning from these experiences, KTJ proposed a new approach, one centered around sustainability.

Tailored Support For Empowerment

Rather than offering blanket solutions, we delved into the specific needs of our tailors.

We discovered that while many already possessed sewing machines, they lacked essential materials, tools, and equipment necessary to truly flourish in their craft.

With a budget in hand, KTJ carefully selected deserving tailors to receive sponsored machines and tools tailored to their individual needs.

Materials ready to be upcycled

The Power of Hands-On Learning

The culmination of this generous sponsorship came to fruition on the 17th of August 2023, as KTJ and the MAYBANK Legal Team joined forces to organize a transformative team-building workshop.


However, this wasn't your typical corporate affair. Instead, the spotlight shone on our tailors, who took center stage as trainers, sharing their skills and talents in an empowering manner.

As MAYBANK employees immersed themselves in the art of sewing, guided by our skilled tailors, a profound exchange occurred.

Through this unique blend of team building and social responsibility, a sense of pride and purpose blossomed within the MAYBANK team.

We've been a part of many upcycling projects over the years and here's one we've been pretty proud of.

Not because of the product that came out of it (which is awesome too by the way), but more so for the impact that was created overall which shows the power of collective action.

We've not only worked closely with local batik artisans but also embarked on collaborations with talented individuals from various creative domains. 


Our latest venture brings us together with Aimman Hafizal, a rising star in the Malaysian art scene. 

The Collaboration: Kopitiam Series

In the spirit of celebrating Malaysia's vibrant culture, KTJ joined forces with the talented Aimman Hafizal to bring the KTJ Kopitiam Series to life. This collaboration isn't just about fashion; it's an artistic journey that encapsulates the essence of our local kopitiam experience.

Aimman's artistic touch adds a unique flavor to our Coffee Pouch and Teh Tarik Pouch. Together, we've blended art and fashion to pay homage to the heartwarming vibes of our local kopitiams, where stories are shared over cups of kopi and teh tarik.

Through this collaboration, Aimman's incredible artwork didn't just grace our products; it breathed life into them. Each piece told a unique story, sparking conversations and spreading the beauty of Malaysia's heritage."

If you look closely, you'll notice a subtle detail of Malayan Tigers infused into all of his work for our Kopitiam series - which further represents our dear country of Malaysia!

Aimann Hafizal: A Local Gem

But who is Aimman Hafizal, the artist behind this creative venture?

He's a homegrown talent, a shining star in our local art scene. Hailing from Johor, Malaysia, Aimman's artistic journey has been nothing short of exceptional.

Aimman's academic achievements underscore his dedication to the fusion of art and technology. He earned his MA in Fine Art & Technology from UiTM Jalan Othman in 2019, showcasing his commitment to the evolving world of art.

His artistic journey began with excellence, graduating with first-class honors and receiving the prestigious Vice Chancellor Award for his Bachelor's Degree (Hons) in Fine Art with a specialization in Painting from UiTM Shah Alam.

This commitment to excellence echoes his earlier achievements during his Diploma in Fine Art at UiTM Seri Iskandar, Perak.

Currently based in Seksyen U12 Shah Alam, Selangor, Malaysia, Aimman Hafizal's artistry centers around illustrative painting, which artfully engages with the nostalgia of childhood popular culture, a theme that runs throughout his years of studying Fine Art.

Aimman's artistry has been widely recognized both locally and internationally. In 2015, he received the title of Best Technical Artist in the "Energy: Past & Future" art competition, hosted by Galeri Petronas. A pinnacle in his professional journey was winning the Major Award for Anugerah Seni MIDF in 2017, marking a significant milestone in his artistic career.

His artistic exploration extends beyond borders, including a noteworthy residency program at Saung Banon Arts in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. During this program, his degree internship profoundly influenced his development of childhood memories, setting the stage for his ongoing artistic evolution.

Aimman Hafizal's artwork has graced numerous exhibitions, not only in Malaysia but also in countries like Indonesia, Taiwan, and South Korea. His art continues to captivate audiences by bridging the past and present through the lens of childhood nostalgia and popular culture.
